At the beginning of July we hit the seaside for our second annual coach trip to Skegness. If last year's trip was anything to go by, we knew it would be a good day. It was even better.
Bright and early
Our clients boarded the coach at 9am, ready for a day out. Marian, one of our home care assistants, kept everyone entertained on the journey with a quiz she had put together. Competitive does not begin to describe it.
After a quick pit stop, we arrived in sunny (but breezy) Skegness just in time for lunch.
Fish and chips first
First stop was fish and chips. It was the quietest moment of the entire day as everyone tucked in. Nobody talks when the chips are that good.
After lunch there were ice creams, donuts, and a wander along the seafront. It was a little too chilly for paddling, but nobody seemed to mind. The arcades more than made up for it, and the slot machines got a proper workout.
Why we do this
A day trip to the seaside might sound simple. But for some of our clients, it is the only time they leave the house for something that is not a hospital appointment or a shop run. It is a chance to breathe different air, sit somewhere new, and laugh with people who know them.
The home care assistants who came along volunteered their time. They were not there because they had to be. They were there because they wanted to see their clients have a good day. That says more about our team than anything we could write on a website.
A huge thank you to everyone who made it happen. Same time next year.
