On 8th May 2025, the nation marked 80 years since Victory in Europe Day. Communities across the country held events to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe and to honour those who served.
Our Registered Manager, Harriett, is a proud former Army medic. VE Day means something personal to her. So when the local celebrations were announced, she and Diane, one of our home care assistants, took one of our clients along.
More than an outing
For our client, the day carried real weight. It was a chance to remember friends and family who never came home, and to sit among people who understood what that meant.
There were smiles and shared stories. There were a few quiet, emotional moments too. The kind of moments you do not rush.
Harriett and Diane were there throughout, not just as carers but as company. That is what home care looks like when it is done properly. It is not just about personal care and medication. It is about being there for the things that matter to someone.
Why this matters
It would have been easy for our client to watch the anniversary on television at home. Plenty of people did, and there is nothing wrong with that. But getting out, being among the community, standing up to pay respects, that is different. That is the sort of thing that stays with you.
We are proud to have been part of it. And we are proud to support people who carry these memories, helping them live their lives with the dignity and respect they deserve.
In memory of those who gave so much.
